Help us plan a new Wellington Arts Centre

Wellington City Council is developing a proposal for a new arts centre - currently called the ArtsCubator - and wants input and ideas from potential occupants and users. There is an important meeting on Thursday, April 29 at 11am in the Rangimarie Room at Te Papa.

It’s envisaged the ArtsCubator would be a melting pot for all kinds of artists, craftspeople, arts groups and organisations. It could include office space for arts organisations, workshops, studios, rehearsal space, recording facilities, community arts courses, professional development services, and specialised art-making resources. Public facilities like a café, performance space, information hub and a small gallery are other possibilities. We need your input and ideas to formulate a formal and workable plan.

The Council will then develop a business and operational plan for the ArtsCubator.

Three meetings are planned for the next week:

· Artists, craftspeople and practitioners – 11am to 1pm on Thursday 29 April in the Rangimarie Room at Te Papa

· Major arts organisations – 10am to noon on Tuesday 4 May, Square Affair Suite (1st floor of the Old Town Hall)

· Community arts groups – 10am to noon on Wednesday 5 May, Square Affair Suite (1st floor of the Old Town Hall)

For further information phone Allan Prangnell, Senior Policy Analyst, on (04) 801 3425 or email artscubator@wcc.govt.nz

The meeting rooms have limited capacity, so to ensure your place, please respond if you plan on attending. You may also draft any comments, ideas, or suggestions that relate to your creative occupation and art work, for consideration as we develop the ArtsCubator plan.

Thanks for contributing to the profile of our city, and for being creative in Wellington.
